Medical Doctor

 

The Medical Lead will lead a team of practitioners, establish and maintain world-class standards of medical provision, and work closely with coaches and multidisciplinary performance staff to minimise injury and illness risk and maximise athlete health, availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a performance medicine strategy centred on athlete education, proactive self-management and effective response to serious injury or illness.
  • Lead the planning and management of medical services across the multi-sport programme, encompassing the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of injury and illness.
  • Ensure programme athletes receive the highest standards of injury and illness prevention, treatment and medical care.
  • Work collaboratively with coaches and performance support staff to minimise injury risk and maximise competitive performance through an individualised, performance-focused approach.
  • Act as Team Doctor at agreed Al Qadsiah events and competitions.
  • Maintain the highest standards of evidence-based clinical practice while encouraging innovation in support of athlete performance.
  • Ensure medico-legal requirements are consistently maintained across the multi-sport medical department.
  • Oversee the delivery of anti-doping policies, procedures and education across the multi-sport programme.
  • Lead an appropriate Continuing Professional Development programme for members of the Al Qadsiah multi-sport medical team.

Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will bring significant experience operating within elite and high-performance sport, alongside the clinical expertise and leadership capability required to oversee medical provision across a multi-sport environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience providing medical services to elite athletes and coaches.
  • A strong track record of working within multidisciplinary high-performance teams.
  • Experience developing and implementing medical education programmes and world-class standards of practice.
  • The ability to appropriately modify training and rehabilitation programmes according to clinical need, working alongside coaches and other performance staff.
  • Advanced competency in clinical examination, functional assessment and the medical management of sports injury and illness.
  • The ability to evaluate musculoskeletal imaging, scientific data and relevant sports medicine and sports science literature.
  • Experience in effective clinical interventions, including injection techniques and allied therapies.
  • Experience travelling with teams to major senior international competitions, such as the Olympic or Paralympic Games, World or Continental Championships, or Commonwealth Games.
  • Detailed MSK ultrasound knowledge and experience interpreting radiological imaging.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and direct experience of anti-doping.
  • An understanding of the cost-benefit considerations associated with medical service provision.
  • Strong Arabic speaking skills.

Education & Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • Higher specialist training recognised by the GMC, or equivalent, in Sport & Exercise Medicine or Rheumatology & Rehabilitation, or be within six months of Specialist registration.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Sports (and Exercise) Medicine at Diploma level, or equivalent, with verifiable clinical training in sports medicine.
